Frequently Asked Questions

What is Readerpedia®?

Readerpedia® is a creative way to enhance your e-Book. At its essence, Readerpedia® is a glossary that is “embedded” and “in context” to your novel. This allows a reader to navigate seamlessly between specific words and their relevancy to the novel. The reader’s experience is enhanced due to the author’s ability to communicate additional information when necessary.

Is it difficult to use?

No, in fact it is quite a natural response by the reader to see a highlighted word and with one touch find the additional information that the author has provided. With another touch (back key) the reader is returned to the main text at the previous location in order to continue reading.  In other words Readerpedia® is one touch out and one touch back!  Basically seamless!

Who is Readerpedia® for?

Readerpedia® is for all readers! Everyone knows that uncertain feeling when encountering a person, place or thing in a novel that you are unsure of! Readerpedia® eliminates the mystery by allowing the author to deliver additional information in context to the novel and guarantees the reader is brought along for what might become an important thread within the novel.

How does Readerpedia® add to the enjoyment of this novel?

In the Case of Wayward Son, Readerpedia® tightens the readers awareness of what is fiction and what is fact. Readerpedia® also prevents the reader from being misled concerning relevant biblical history. Complete definitions of all important characters and events are dealt with within the Readerpedia® entries insuring that the authors message is delivered and understood.

Why was Readerpedia® developed for this book?

In the novel Wayward Son, our male protagonist travels through ancient times like a biblical Forest Gump! Many of the people he meets are important, well documented historical characters but many are not. We wanted to make sure that the reader was aware that many characters  in the novel were in fact historical figures. The bumping into history became part of the fabric of the novel. Without Readerpedia® there may not have been an awareness or appreciation of the authors work.

What makes Readerpedia® unique?

Good question! Presently e-Readers provide a dictionary with one touch on all words.  You may also do an offsite search and visit Wikipedia with 4 or 5 touches. Readerpedia® has the advantage of being in context to the novel for words that the author wants to provide additional information on. It is also embedded within the e-Book so there is no offfsite search. Rather a simple one touch seamless glossary. To give you an example, in the novel Wayward Son, our protagonist meets the first Pharaoh of Egypt, Menes. When Menes offers him a beer, a question might arise in the readers mind. Did the Egyptians have beer in 3000BC?Well, as an author I want you to know that Egyptians drank beer but I don’t want you to put the book down and cross reference with your laptop! Instead I highlight the word “beer” and when you touch the key word the Readerpedia® is activated and the reader finds out that indeed Egyptians made an drank beer. With the current technology, a one touch dictionary will give you a precise definition of beer and an offsite 4 or 5 touch investigation of Wikipedia will get you more information than you need or want.  Readerpedia® is faster and customized, making it unique!

Where can we find Readerpedia® eBooks?

Currently the  Wayward Son e-book enjoys the status of being the world’s first and only Readerpedia® and as such is the fastest selling Readerpedia® of all time. You can find this publishing landmark exclusively at Amazon.com!

How much does the Readerpedia® version of Wayward Son cost?

Readerpedia® allows the author or publisher to command a premium price, perhaps $1 or $2 more than a standard non enhanced e-book.  But if your a bargain hunter we are currently promoting the Readerpedia® version of Wayward Son as low as .99 cents for a limited time only.

Tom Pollack (center) has spent most of his professional career in the investment business, but his passions for sailing and adventure spawned the entrepreneurial and creative endeavors that ultimately provided the inspiration for Wayward Son.

A former member of the U.S. Sailing Team, Tom served from 2001 to 2007 as the CEO of the Transpac (TP) 52 sailboat racing class.  During that time, he collaborated with His Majesty Juan Carlos, King of Spain, in the creation of the professional grand prix racing circuit now known as the Audi Medcup.

Tom’s friendship with another TP52 owner, Roy Disney, led to the release in 2008 of Walt Disney Pictures’ critically acclaimed motion picture, Morning Light.  The film is based on Tom’s original idea of documenting the exploits of a group of college-aged sailors recruited to compete against seasoned pros in the Trans-Pacific race from Southern California to Hawaii.

A Southern California native, Tom graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a bachelor’s degree in political science.  He resides in Dana Point with his wife, Jennifer, and their two children.  Tom serves as President of the Mission Basilica School Foundation in San Juan Capistrano and the Chairman of ExplorOcean, Newport Beach’s popular nautical museum.

Jim Alves (left) recently completed a 25-year career in bond sales and trading, partnering with Tom for most of that period.  He graduated from The University of Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics.  He currently is Chief Executive Officer of Prometheus Holdings, a financial consulting firm.  Jim resides in San Clemente, California with his wife Jackie and their two young boys, having successfully launched two older sons from the nest. Jim is a passionate race horse owner as well as an avid golfer and dirt bike rider. A native of New England, he remains an unapologetic fan of the Red Sox, the Celtics, and the Patriots.

John Loftus (right) spent 23 years at Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO), where as a Managing Director he focused on new product development and marketing.  Tom and Jim recruited John to the Wayward Son project while he was winding down his investment career at PIMCO. A graduate of Stanford University and the Stanford Graduate School of Business, his writings have been published in various financial journals and textbooks.  Now President of Cascada Productions, John is also active in philanthropy and the non-profit sector, serving as President of both the First Corinthians 13:13 Foundation and The Southern California Children’s Chorus.  An Ohio native, John resides in Newport Beach, California, with his wife, Lori.  They have three grown children and two grandchildren. In his spare time, John tries, typically in vain, to best Lori on the golf course.

Introducing the World’s First Readerpedia!

"This is a GAME CHANGER! Wayward Son has just been re-released in a brand new Readerpedia Edition for Kindle. The novel itself is superb, spanning eons of history and containing many surprising twists, but the Readerpedia enhancement offers a completely new reading experience. The authors have added over 100 specific Readerpedia entries within Wayward Son. Simply clicking on the highlighted text selections within the novel brings the reader a concise yet informative description of the historical person, place, event or thing, often with pictures and diagrams. Unlike the bland word definitions Kindle normally provides or the time consuming off site search of Wikipedia, Readerpedia entries are in context to the novel and embedded within the e-Book itself. The result is a seamless, interactive learning experience which in turn makes an already colorful novel even more vivid and engaging. After reviewing each entry, one click gets you back to reading, or you may elect to go deeper into a topic utilizing external links in the Readerpedia entries." Rick Friedman.
